Barcelona Snowglobes
A Barcelona souvenier shop window with numerous snowglobes mainly variations on the Sagrada Cathedral. Barcelona has
many souvenier shops for the snowglobe collector to browse.
The cathedral, not to be confused with the Sagrada.
Built during the thirteenth to fifteenth centuries, its located amongst the scenic old town streets and alleys at the very heart of Barcelona.
We didnt go inside mainly because there is so much to do in Barcelona, but it looks impressive from the outside.
You can go to the roof via an elevator which sounds an impressive experience and something to put on the list for our next visit.
The Park Güell Lizard,"El Drac" -the dragon is a famous and popular ceramic attraction made by architect Antoni Gaudi, who created a series of animal structures throughout the park. The park gets very busy so go early or when the sun sets for a great view across the city. The globe also has an illustration of other Gaudi buildings: the Segrada and the La Pedrera-Casa Milà
The Magic Fountain built in 1929, and apparently has a display of water, music and light. However when we were there December 2023 it had been switched off due to sustained drought in the area. We did see the New Year's Eve fireworks disply behind it, which was madly crowded but pretty good, even seen in the distance behind about 80,000 people!
We went to an El Classico football match against Real Madrid on a trip spent at the beach resort of nearby Sitges a few years back. The Camp Nou stadium is being redeveloped now and looks like a building site this time we went. Some neat stadium globes in Barca colours available everywhere in the shops.
An older globe of the Sagrada Familia and a more modern but waterless and distorted globe showing the Sagrada, the blue, Glòries Tower and an old style taxi. The Sagrada is a popular building for snowglobes. Its the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world (also referred to as a cathedral, temple or basilica), begun in 1882. and originally overseen by architect Gaudi. The Glories Tower has 38 storeys and was completed in 2005.
