Swiss cities snow globes
Switzerland is the land of plenty for snow globes. There are many generic Switzerland globes celebrating the culture of the land. Each city has its own types and these are a small selection of those available which we obtained in the local tourist shops
Basel is a city in northwestern Switzerland on the River Rhine and is the third-most-populous city. It is considered to be the cultural capital of Switzerland and has many museums.
As seen in the globe it has the Munster Cathedral, made of red sandstone with a multi-colored tile roof. Started in the 1200s it originally had 5 towers losing 3 in an earthquake in 1356. It has a Later Roman and Gothic facade which alongside its red stonework makes it so notable. The base shows the distinctive buildings and lake

Bern the "federal city" is the capital of Switzerland, It originated on a hill in the 1100s by the River Aare. The buildings in the Old City, include many15th and 16th-century structures. Most of the medieval town was
restored in the 18th century but it has retained its original character.

The globe shows the Zytglogge an early 13th century tower with its 15th-century astronomical clock. It has been a guardtower, prison, clock tower, centre of urban life and civic memorial.
The Zähringen Fountain with its armoured bear statue amongst the old houses of Kramgasse was built in 1535, as a memorial to the founder of Bern,Berchtold von Zähringer and represents the unforunate bear Berchtold shot when looking for a site to begin building the city.
Geneva is the second highly populated city in Switzerland. It is situated in the southwest of the country, and is renowned as a centre for international diplomacy. Geneva hosts the highest number of international organizations in the world.

The globe shows The Jet d'Eau - Water-Jet, fountain which is a famous landmark. The first Jet d'Eau was installed in 1886 near by, but In 1891, it was moved to its present more prominent location. It was replaced in 1951 by a more modern version. The Jet jumps up to about 90 metres and makes a powerful whooshing noise close up.

The Flower Clock, shown on the globe's side, was first formed in 1955 and contains about 12,000 flowers and plants. The clock is not just for looking at pretty flowers, it tells the exact time by a sattelite transmitting to it. The seconds-hand is 2.5 metres long, and seems to be the world’s longest!

The town of Interlaken is a traditional Swiss tourist resort town, within the mountains of the Bernese Oberland region of central Switzerland. It is situated between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and is surrounded by forests, meadows and glaciers. The globe shows the notable red roofed chalets and houses, with the snow covered Jungfrau massif glacier in the background.
Lausanne situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, about halfway between the Jura Mountains and the Alps. It the fourth largest city in Switzerland.
The Cathedral of Lausanne was largely built in the 12th and 13th centuries, consecrated on 20th October 1275 It became a protestant cathedral in 1536.
The Stanserhorn is a mountain in Switzerland, with the peak at 1,898 metres (6,227 ft) above sea level.
It is a major tourist destination, reached from the town of Stans by a funicular railway and cable car, The first public transport route was completed in 1893, in the form of a three section funicular railway.
The latest double decker cable car has an open upper deck for 30 people giving a panoramic view as it ascends the mountain
Nyon is located 25 kilometers from Geneva city centre, on the shores of Lake Geneva.
The town contains the headquarters of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the European Club Association (ECA).
Like many Swiss towns its origins go back to beyond Roman times but is first officially recorded around 367–407. The globe shows the Château de Nyon originally a fortified house built in the 1100s and now containing a museum.
​Thun is a town located where the River Aare flows out of Lake Thun, 30 kilometres (19 miles) southeast of Bern.
The city’s most famous landmark is Thun Castle,seen at the back of the globe with its tower, that was built between 1180 and 1190. It is well worth visiting for the museum and views.
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland located in north-central Switzerland, at the end of Lake Zurich with 443,000 inhabitants. The globe shows the Cathedral, The Grossmünster, a Romanesque-style Protestant church. It was built from around 1100 on the site of a Carlingian Church according to legend, built on orders from Charlemagne.
